Proverbs 18:17 - "The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him."
Many ideas in our culture may seem correct, but upon further examination, one realizes the folly.
Much like the current in an ocean, you may be in danger of being swept away if you do not have a firm anchor to hold on to. And if you are swept up in a cultural idea that brings you further from the Lord, you need to swim out of the current (read: challenge that worldview) to reach safety i.e. discovering truth.
The Bible is the anchor held onto at Counter Current Apologetics. It is the message from the Creator of the universe and contains absolute truth. Scripture is the ultimate authority on which one should base one's worldview. Thus, it is also important to truly understand what Scripture is communicating. This is done by understanding context, considering the ancient culture to which most of these documents were written too and about, and relying on the Holy Spirit to illumine truth.
As a disclaimer, Counter Current Apologetics stands firm on the truth of the Bible, the fact of the virgin birth, and that Jesus is the second person of the Trinity, including the Father and Holy Spirit known as YHWH God in Scripture.
CCA also affirms the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ, and trusts Jesus' claim to be the only way to the Father (John 14:6). There are some other issues fellow Christians hold to that are debatable within Christianity, and CCA is committed to gracious, honest discussion concerning those differences. There is real value in discussing these topics, but one should be civil and exercise grace in disagreement. As long as we are on the same page about who Jesus is and we attempt to follow Him, we are siblings in Christ. If you do not agree with these ideas - Levi would love the opportunity to explain why he believes them!
Counter Current Apologetics exists to
Engage cultural ideas against Christianity
Encourage believers in the truth of Christianity
Equip believers with evidence to refute erroneous ideas
and
Empower fellow believers to share the gospel of Jesus Christ
Counter Current Apologetics seeks to glorify Jesus Christ and encourage all believers that we can give reasons for the hope that we have. Together we can fulfill the great commission and help remove cognitive roadblocks that keep some people from understanding what Scripture communicates.
Levi Smith has spent years considering, studying, and challenging his own ideas concerning the world and what Scripture is communicating about God and the role people play on this earth. Levi knows he is not done learning but is eager to share what he has discovered with anyone willing to listen!
A worldview should be consistent with reality - so in order to find out what we should believe, it is imperative to examine whether our ideas are consistent with how the world works. I consider the arguments I give are pieces to the puzzle that when put together as a whole, point to the fact the Christian worldview is the only one that truly makes sense of the world. The below five points are the most convincing to me that the Christian worldview is consistent with reality.
There are many reasons to believe that the universe was intelligently designed. From the fact that everything which begins to exist has a cause, to the fact that the whole universe appears to have been designed for a purpose, the theory of intelligent design for why there is a universe has strong evidence!
(A great book to research this is "Return of the God Hypothesis" by Stephen C. Meyer)
The existence of DNA is another reason to believe that the universe was intelligently designed. It is the longest word ever discovered in nature; it is a word that is designed to communicate specified information to the cell so the living organism will develop into whatever it is designed to be! This level of specified information is only known to come from intelligent sources.
The gospels are eye-witness accounts of the life, teachings, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. There is a lot of evidence to show that these ancient documents were written early (close to the event), consistent with testimony outside of the Bible, and corroborated by archeological discoveries. If we can rely on the gospels to give us accurate information, then the claims made by Jesus make it extremely important to understand and follow what is taught.
The evidence of an intelligent designer points to the most likely conclusion that there is a "God." Jesus made some really bold claims about being this God - and if Jesus claimed to be God, and God does exist, then Jesus' resurrection backs up His claim! One could not claim the things Jesus did and expect to come back from the grave if He was not who He claimed to be. But since the most reasonable explanation of the empty tomb is the actual, physical, bodily resurrection of Jesus, we should probably pay attention to what He teaches.
Despite the common postmodern notion of one being able to have his/her own truth even if it contradicts someone else's truth, with a little examination one realizes this ideology is unlivable. Instead, the only reasonable mindset is one that understands the existence of objective truth and objective morality. Further, the idea of an objective morality suggests a moral law, the existence of a moral law suggests a moral-law giver. And this moral=law giver must be outside of humanity, otherwise it is just a matter of opinion and thus would be subjective instead of objective.
There are more points to explore and some challenges to these claims. However, these 5 ideas contain very strong evidence that the Christian worldview is consistent with reality. If this worldview is indeed reality, and Jesus is God Himself who would know, we should carefully consider His words and claim to exclusivity:
John 14:6
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"
